Hospital shares commemorative Easter eggs from cancelled White House Easter Egg Roll with staff and families over Easter weekend

WASHINGTON – An unexpected gift of colorful wooden Easter eggs from First Lady Melania Trump and the White House Historical Association brightened the holiday weekend for patients and employees at Children’s National Hospital.
“We are extremely grateful for the thoughtfulness and generosity of Mrs. Trump and our friends at the White House Historical Association,” says Kathleen Gorman, M.S.N., R.N., F.A.A.N., executive vice president for patient care services and chief operating officer at Children’s National. “Especially now, when everyone feels a bit isolated, these acts of kindness help families with a child in the hospital and our health care team feel a sense of connection with the community beyond our walls.”
The commemorative pastel-colored wooden eggs, originally created for the 2020 White House Easter Egg Roll, were shared with patients and staff in nearly every unit of the the hospital over the holiday weekend by Gorman and Martha Parra, M.S.N., R.N., vice president for clinical support services at Children’s National.
“Creating these connections is just one of the non-clinical aspects of care at Children’s National Hospital that plays an integral part in a child’s healing,” Gorman continued. “Though it was sad that the traditional Easter Egg Roll at the White House was cancelled, sharing this touch of spring joy with our families and our hardworking staff brought some holiday cheer into the hospital at a time when it is needed most.”
