Friday June 10th

Summer Reading Kickoff: Musical Performance by Pachamama! at NY Public 53rd Street Library
Friday June 10th 2-3p. Free. Pachamama means Mother Earth in Quechua. In this interactive music show by children’s entertainer Flor Bromley, children will learn how we can take care of the Earth and the Ocean by listening to how our indigenous cultures treated our environment. This show has a diverse music menu for the whole family!

Hudson River Dance Festival in Hudson River Park
Friday June 10th 7p. Free. Location: Pier 63Hudson River Park and The Joyce Theater are pleased to announce the highly-anticipated return of the Hudson River Dance Festival, assembling some of today’s most exciting dance companies for two spectacular free shows. Presented by Hudson River Park Friends in association with the Joyce Theater Foundation, Inc., with additional support provided by SHS Foundation., the showcase celebrates the vibrant voices and diverse styles our city has to offer. Set against the incomparable backdrop of sunset over the Hudson River, festival brings world-class performances to HRPK’s Pier 63 lawn. Note this event also happens Thursday June 9th 7p. Fairy Tale Films: Son of the White Mare at 6 River Terrace (Battery Park City)
Friday June 10th 7-830p. Free to attend, click HERE to let us know you are coming. Based on a Hungarian folktale, Son of the White Mare (Marcell Jankovics,1981), is a swirling, color-mad epic journey to save the universe. Reminiscent of the hallucinatory palette of “Yellow Submarine” and the rich visual storytelling of “Fantasia”, critics have deemed it one of the greatest psychedelic animated movies ever made. Free popcorn will be served, and a discussion will follow the screenings.

Movies Under The Stars: Spider-Man: No Way Home in McCarren Park
Friday June 10th 830-1030p. Free. Grab a blanket and come enjoy a movie in a neighborhood park or playground! This summer, NYC Parks and The Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment will host family-friendly movie showings across the five boroughs. Spider-Man: No Way Home (PG-13): With Spider-Man’s identity now revealed, Peter asks Doctor Strange for help. When a spell goes wrong, dangerous foes from other worlds start to appear, forcing Peter to discover what it truly means to be Spider-Man. Movies begin at dusk. This event is FREE and open to the public. Glass bottles and alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited. In the event of heavy rain or extreme weather, the screening may be canceled. The decision to cancel the event will be made prior to the screening and will be prominently posted on the website.

Saturday June 11th

For the Birds Opening Celebration in Brooklyn Botanic Garden
Saturday June 11th 10a-6p. Free with Garden admission. Celebrate the opening of For the Birds, an exhibition and program series presented in partnership with acclaimed music supervisor Randall Poster. Be among the first to check out the new, Garden-wide birdhouse installation, meet the exhibition artists, join a dance party and parade, and get up close with incredible birds of prey. Tribeca Festival: Ice Age at Waterfront Plaza at Brookfield Place (Battery Park City)
Saturday June 11th 11a. Free with ticket. ICE AGE: The story revolves around sub-zero heroes: a woolly mammoth, a saber-toothed tiger, a sloth and a prehistoric combination of a squirrel and rat, known as Scrat. There are additional free outdoor events during the Tribeca Festival. See the website for all the events.

Brooklyn Pride Festival (Park Slope)
Saturday June 11th 11a-5p. Free. Come on down to Park Slope’s 5th Avenue to enjoy a cross-section of the borough’s business, community, and city-wide organizations. In addition to the vendors, there will be a fabulous entertainment stage at 4th Street displaying local, national, and international talent! Furthermore, at Old Stone House / J.J. Byrne Park, 5th Ave. between 3rd & 4th Streets, we will have our Family Fun Zone that features family activities, music, face painting, arts & crafts, story-time, and more!

Pride Celebration for Kids at City Point (Downtown Brooklyn)
Saturday June 11th 12n-3p. Free. Pride Celebration in Downtown Brooklyn…Come One and All! The magic of Coney Island comes to City Point for a Pride-inspired afternoon of entertainment, activities, and community love. Coney Island has always been a summer hotspot for creativity, over-the-top entertainment, and acceptance. City Point and Lola Star are bringing that inclusive celebration to City Point during Pride Month with a cast of Circus Performers, afternoon of activities and Rainbow Parade. The staged event will showcase the spirit and talent that makes Coney Island a legendary destination for all walks of like. Lola Star comments, “We are so excited to bring the energy, creativity and love that makes Coney Island special to Downtown Brooklyn. Our mix of performers is sure to surprise, delight and excite the audience.” To kick off the afternoon, Brooklyn families will be encouraged to come in costume and join in the Rainbow Parade, which will circle through Albee Square and Flatbush Avenues led by the visiting performers.

Irish Arts Center Dance and Music Festival in Riverside Park
Saturday June 11th 1-630p. Free. Location: Pier I. In celebration of National Immigrant Heritage Month, we’re inviting performers from communities across the city to perform in our annual festival in Riverside Park! Join us on Pier I for a free day of dance, music, sessions, céilís, cultural workshops, and arts & crafts. See the website for the schedule of performances.

Sunday June 12th

Tribeca Festival: The Addams Family at Hudson River Park
Sunday June 12th 11a. Free. Location: Pier 57. A stranger shows up on the Addams’ doorstep, claiming to be a long-lost uncle. However, he is really a ringer in cahoots with a lawyer; and the two are trying to dupe the ghoulish family out of their fortune. The Tribeca Festival is running June 8th-19th. Pond Ecology: Freshwater Invertebrates in Canarsie Park
Sunday June 12th 11a-12n. Free. Location: Entrance – East 88th Street and Seaview Avenue. Dip nets into one of Brooklyn’s only freshwater ponds and learn about the tiny organisms that make up one of the load-bearing strands of a healthy food web.

Living History: What is Juneteenth? at New-York Historical Society Museum & Library (UWS)
Sunday June 12th 1-230p. Free with Museum admission. Discover Juneteenth, the annual celebration of the end of American chattel slavery on June 19, 1865. Explore its origins, how it has changed over time, and the many local traditions connected with the holiday. Listen to narratives of formerly enslaved people as they describe how they learned about the end of slavery. And: Learn how to make a Juneteenth flag and other festive decorations!

Juneteenth Storytime at the Central Brooklyn Public Library
Sunday June 12th 2-3p. Free. Location: The Plaza. June 19 is Juneteenth! Join us on the Central Library Plaza for an early celebration and storytime highlighting the important historical date which commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African-Americans within the United States. Our storytime will be followed by a short craft activity. Space is limited. In case of rain or excessive heat, this program will be in the Central Youth Wing Upper Program Room. If indoors, space is limited and masks are required for all participants ages 2 and up.

Citizen Science Fishing Clinics in Brooklyn Bridge Park
Sunday June 12th 4-7p. Free. Location: Pier 5. All ages welcome, equipment provided on site. Learn how to bait a hook, drop a line, and maybe even reel up a fish! Guided by our education team, learn the basics of rod and reel fishing while catching-and-releasing some of Brooklyn Bridge Park’s finest. Additional dates: July 16, August 21, October 2

Smith Street Stage Presents: Shakespeare “The Comedy of Errors” in Carroll Park
Wednesday-Sunday June 8th-12th 7-9p, Thursday-Sunday June 16th-19th & 23rd-26th. All performances are free and open to the public, seating is first come, first served. Smith Street Stage is presenting their 11th annual production of Shakespeare in Carroll Park “The Comedy of Errors”.

Pinocchio at Puppetworks (Park Slope)

Open Village at Historic Richmond Town (Staten Island)
Wednesday-Sundays 11a-5p until October 2nd. Tickets available through general admission: Adults $10. Ticket purchases for general admission are only available on-site at the 3rd County Courthouse in the Visitor Center. Kids (ages 6-11) $5 Members & Kids (ages 5 & under) FREE. Step back in time and experience the open village at Historic Richmond Town! The open-air museum is alive with living history, demonstrated by costumed Historical Interpreters in structures throughout the campus. The campus zones interpret life in the 1770s, 1820s, and 1860s. Historic trades are displayed in shops, and domestic life is shown inside historic homes. Daily programs include talks and demonstrations of trades, political life in the 19th century, and the evolution of 1850s fashions. Set against the backdrop of the woods and wetlands surrounding the site, the Open Village is an immersive experience that educates and inspires.

Roller Skating at LeFrak Center at Lakeside Prospect Park
Monday to Friday: 12n-6p, Saturday: 12n-730p & Sunday:12n-6p. Admission: $6 weekdays, $10 weekends (Weekend pricing begins Friday at 4pm). Skate rentals: $7. The carousel is also open Thursdays–Sundays and Holidays 12–5p.

Wake Up, Daisy! at the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre (Central Park)
Fridays-Sundays 11-1145 (doors 1030a) & 1-145p (doors 1230p) until 12/31/22. Tickets: $12 adult, $8 child. Purchase tickets here. Location: 79th Street and West Drive Central Park. Wake Up, Daisy! tells the story of Daisy, a lively little girl living in the heart of New York City in an apartment overlooking Central Park. At Daisy’s much-anticipated birthday party, she encounters three special guests, known as her “Squad-parents”, from Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx who grant her the gifts of courage, knowledge, and a second chance. When an unwelcome guest shows up and casts a curse on her, Daisy’s life is forever changed. But through the support of her friends and an adventure throughout the city, Daisy’s strong self-determination and vivid imagination may be all she needs to break the curse.

Seaport Discovery: Exploring Our Waters with Eric Carle at South Street Seaport Museum
Wednesdays-Sundays 11a-5p until August 31st. Admission is $5 per child aged 1-12, with no charge for accompanying caregivers, teens, and infants. Advanced timed tickets are recommended. Book today! Visit our new discovery room of maritime-themed art by Eric Carle, beloved creator of picture books for young children. Seaport Discovery: Exploring Our Waters with Eric Carle is designed specifically for children aged 2-7 and their adults. Please note that people over age 5 will be required to show proof they are fully vaccinated to enter indoor exhibition spaces and to board Ambrose.

The Yard: Adventure Playground on Governor’s Island
Saturdays-Sundays 12n-4p and Monday May 30th 12n-4p. Free admission but fees for ferries. See website for ferry details. Wel­come back to The Yard, New York City’s only adven­ture play­ground! The Yard offers free week­end play from 12 – 4pm. The Yard is a kids-only space stew­ard­ed by trained play­work­ers. The main play area is rec­om­mend­ed for young peo­ple ages 6 to 12 and the fam­i­ly play area wel­comes chil­dren under 5. The Yard sup­plies young peo­ple with loose parts mate­ri­als for build­ing, explor­ing, imag­in­ing and destroy­ing. In addi­tion to free week­ends, The Yard also offers sum­mer camp, school field trips, birth­day par­ties and spe­cial pro­grams, all with adher­ence to CDC guidelines. Farm Exploration Days in Randall’s Island Park
Saturdays-Sundays 10a-4p until October 8th. Free. Location: Urban Farm. Explore the Urban Farm’s variety of crops, rice paddies, and fragrant herbs, and meet the chickens too! All ages welcome!

1885 Tall Ship Wavertree Free Tour at South Street Seaport
Fridays, Saturdays-Sundays 11a-5p until May 22nd and Wednesday-Sunday starting May 25th. Free. The permanently-moored 1885 tall ship Wavertree is open to the public for FREE on Saturdays and Sundays, with timed entry, at Pier 16 (Fulton and South Streets). Guided tours depart hourly and last approximately 30 minutes. Advance reservations are recommended. Guided tours include access to the main deck and quarter deck. Learn how people worked and lived aboard a 19th century cargo sailing vessel, from the captain to the ship’s officers, cooks, and crew. Then visit the cargo hold and stand atop the viewing platform where you can take in the massive main cargo area. Proof of vaccine required for all guests over age 5. Masks required.

Sharks at the American Museum of Natural History (UWS)
Museum hours Wednesday-Sunday 10a-530p. Included in General Admission+One. See website for all the details.The new exhibition Sharks features dozens of life-sized models ranging from 33 feet to 5.5 inches long, fossils from the Museum’s collections, touch-free interactive exhibits that challenge visitors to hunt like a hammerhead, and more for visitors of all ages. Older than dinosaurs—and more threatened than threatening—sharks are spectacular, surprising, and often misunderstood. Discover the incredible diversity of this ancient and fascinating group of fishes. Note: The Museum continues to require vaccinations against COVID-19 and facial coverings.
