The Five Stages of Quarantine with Two Small Children

theauthor

At this position, we have quarantined so typically based mostly on “direct contact” that I have missing observe.  Has it been 5 situations?  Six? Eleven?  Lina attends therapy with a quantity of other little ones, as well as employees, and each individual few months an individual has turned up optimistic for Covid.  Thankfully, no one particular has turn out to be seriously sick, but we have had to devote days on days at household, lacking Lina’s critical support process and slowly heading stark raving mad.

On December 21, we yet again obtained term that Lina would have to continue to be property dependent on immediate speak to with a good Covid circumstance.  On December 22, we took her for a necessary PCR exam.  On December 24 (or what is recognized colloquially as “Christmas Eve”), we acquired she was favourable.  The only great issue I can say about the ensuing two months is that we experienced not prepared to travel and experienced not invited everyone else to join us for Xmas.  The primary reasons guiding our seclusion had been twofold: (1) airline travel is not feasible dependent on Lina’s aversion to carrying a mask, and (2) we needed to loosen up and get pleasure from Xmas devoid of the pressures of hosting.

As an alternative, we got to appreciate Xmas while tense and weary.

I’ll place a kibosh on any untrue suspense by informing you now that Lina confirmed no signs and symptoms, and the rest of us remained Covid-totally free.  The children are way too younger to get the vaccine, but Jack escaped nonetheless (despite the fact that he as soon as once again experienced the suffer the indignity of a q-tip up his nose), and Ryan and I are vaccinated and usually healthier.  For that, I am grateful.

For the ongoing, relentless quarantines…I am not.  Every time, the quarantine looks to observe a common pattern with a falsely beneficial original outlook, traversing steeply downhill from there.

There are 5 phases of quarantine that I have identified.

#1: Aggressive Optimism

This is fine!  We’ll make a color-coded program, designating different times for songs, artwork, out of doors engage in, and creative motion.  We do not need to have no stinking display time.  We really don’t require our usual therapists or childcare.  WE Bought THIS!

#2: Annoyance

What do you Mean you never want to make-your-have-playdough?  Why do you say “all done” the 2nd I test to introduce a ~enjoyment~ shaving product action?  And can mommy have One Next By yourself TO PEE??

#3: Bargaining

If you poop in the potty in its place of your trousers, I’ll give you an M&M.  Good, two M&Ms.  Great, as a lot of M&Ms as you want.  High-quality, a million bucks, I’ll rob a lender, regardless of what, just GET THE POOP IN THE POTTY.

#4: Despair

I simply cannot do this.  Childcare personnel and therapists are angels on earth.  I am not an angel.  AND WHY THE HECK IS THERE SO A lot POOP?!

#5: Resignation

I’m tired.  I have get the job done deadlines.  Hey children, want to enjoy a motion picture and try to eat corn chips straight out of the bag?

For those people who have also endured the results of Covid—be it the virus or the quarantine or the absence of support program you have just about every correct to expect—I’m sorry.  I hope you are executing all ideal.

In spite of my whinging, enable me guarantee you that we survived, albeit did not thrive.  I’m positive there are more quarantines in our potential.  Perhaps by categorizing our expertise, we can conquer it.

Probably not.

Until eventually upcoming time, Covid!
