29 May 2022 – Understanding Grace and Discipleship – Pastor Joseph Prince Sermon Notes – New Creation Church Sermon Notes
New Sermon Notes: Pastor Joseph Prince taught us to humbly see Jesus as our Savior daily and not just as a Teacher to emulate. God loves it when we leave “man’s world” to enter His world by grace.
Praise and Worship Song Performed:
(I missed the first one or two songs)
1. For My Good – New Creation Worship
2. The Stand – Hillsong Music
3. King Of My Heart – Sarah McMillan
Nicodemus the theologian came to Jesus at night whereas Jesus went to the woman of Samaria during the daytime. Jesus loves sinners.
To Nicodemus, Jesus said “You must be born again.” To the woman, Jesus never used that tone.
The first thing that Nicodemus said to Jesus is, “We know…” The erudite ones always think they know. However, it was to the woman that Jesus revealed Himself clearly as the Messiah.
Jesus is primarily our Savior, not just a Teacher.
Jesus is the bread of life and the living water. You eat the bread and drink the water.
Jesus was distant with Nicodemus but gentle with the woman. He praised her, pointed out that she was living with a man who was not her husband, and then praised her again—a ‘divine sandwich’ of praise.
The woman received great grace from Jesus and she became an instant evangelist, boldly telling all about Him.
After ministering to the woman, Jesus was refreshed because a sinner had taken from the Savior. It was like food to Him.
Luke 15:1 – Luke 15 is a continuation from Luke 14. “Now” (or sometimes translated as “Then”) connects the two chapters.
“Now all the tax collectors and sinners were coming close to him to hear him.” (Luke 15:1 WEB)
Luke 15:2 – Jesus was a friend of sinners. He did not avoid them.
“The Pharisees and the scribes murmured, saying, “This man welcomes sinners, and eats with them.”” (Luke 15:2 WEB)
The Law (the Ten Commandments) demands righteousness from man whereas Grace supplies righteousness to man.
God punished our sins in Jesus at the cross so that we can be declared righteous today. This is the holiness of God that has to punish sin.
New Sermon Notes: Pastor Joseph Prince taught us to humbly see Jesus as our Savior daily and not just as a Teacher to emulate. God loves it when we leave “man’s world” to enter His world by grace.
See Jesus primarily as your Savior, not just as a Teacher
Luke 14:1 – Jesus stepped into man’s world—the system where everything is about the knowledge, might, financial ability, etc. in order to superficially measure a man’s worth.
The house represents “Israel”. In contrast, the sea usually represents the Gentiles (the other nations).
The Pharisees were scrutinizing Jesus and looking to find fault with Him. It was a suffocating environment to be in.
“When he went into the house of one of the rulers of the Pharisees on a Sabbath to eat bread, they were watching him.” (Luke 14:1 WEB)
Luke 14:5 – The Pharisees were silent—a hypocritical silence.
When someone is sick, instead of giving them a long list of what to do or not do, pray for their healing. Supply the solution.
People do not need more rules and regulations. They need saving.
“He answered them, “Which of you, if your son or an ox fell into a well, wouldn’t immediately pull him out on a Sabbath day?”” (Luke 14:5 WEB)
Luke 14:7-11 – When God exalts you, no man can un-exalt you. When you exalt yourself, you have to keep maintaining that position stressfully.
“He spoke a parable to those who were invited, when he noticed how they chose the best seats, and said to them, “When you are invited by anyone to a marriage feast, don’t sit in the best seat, since perhaps someone more honorable than you might be invited by him, and he who invited both of you would come and tell you, ‘Make room for this person.’ Then you would begin, with shame, to take the lowest place. But when you are invited, go and sit in the lowest place, so that when he who invited you comes, he may tell you, ‘Friend, move up higher.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of all who sit at the table with you. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”” (Luke 14:7-11 WEB)
Isaiah 40:4 – When you humble yourself, God exalts you. The valley represents the humble sinner whereas the mountain and hill represent the proud religious leaders of Israel.
“Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low. The uneven shall be made level, and the rough places a plain.” (Isaiah 40:4 WEB)
Luke 14:12-14 – Jesus was not comfortable in “man’s world”.
We should do good for God’s sake and not to obtain something back from man.
If we bless those who cannot repay us, we shall be blessed and repaid by God.
“He also said to the one who had invited him, “When you make a dinner or a supper, don’t call your friends, nor your brothers, nor your kinsmen, nor rich neighbors, or perhaps they might also return the favor, and pay you back. But when you make a feast, ask the poor, the maimed, the lame, or the blind; and you will be blessed, because they don’t have the resources to repay you. For you will be repaid in the resurrection of the righteous.”” (Luke 14:12-14 WEB)
Luke 14:16-17 – Jesus paid for the feast with His blood. Everything is ready—you can receive everything you need from God.
At the cross, Jesus cried out “finished”—our debt was completely paid and every blessing was fully purchased.
A richer feast than this was never prepared before.
“But he said to him, “A certain man made a great supper, and he invited many people. He sent out his servant at supper time to tell those who were invited, ‘Come, for everything is ready now.’” (Luke 14:16-17 WEB)
Abraham rejoiced to see Jesus’ day when he was stopped from plunging his knife into Isaac on Mount Moriah. When he turned around after hearing the Angel of the Lord’s voice, he likely saw a vision of Jesus on the cross.
Genesis 24 is the longest chapter in the Book of Genesis. Rebekah is a picture of us, the bride of Christ whom the Lord loves. Abraham’s unnamed servant is a picture of the Holy Spirit.
Luke 14:18-20 – Man can be presented with the greatest feast and yet he can reject it.
These people in the passage gave stupid excuses. They said that they bought a field and oxen without first seeing or testing them.
Jesus came to rescue us from ourselves.
“They all as one began to make excuses. “The first said to him, ‘I have bought a field, and I must go and see it. Please have me excused.’ “Another said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I must go try them out. Please have me excused.’ “Another said, ‘I have married a wife, and therefore I can’t come.’” (Luke 14:18-20 WEB)
Luke 14:21-24 – God is angry when He has so much for man and yet man does not want to receive it. Man is predisposed towards sin and trying to fend for himself.
God’s grace is always greater than the demands of life. His supply is much more.
In the first Passover, the Scriptures say that the family is too small for the lamb and not the other way around.
If you know the infinite value of Jesus, you will know that He is worth much more than all humans put together.
There is just something about man that makes him so stubborn that he has to be compelled to come in to the greatest feast in existence.
Compelled does not mean being forced against our free will. It means being given the desire to want what God is offering.
““That servant came, and told his Lord these things. Then the master of the house, being angry, said to his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in the poor, maimed, blind, and lame.’ “The servant said, ‘Lord, it is done as you commanded, and there is still room.’ “The Lord said to the servant, ‘Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled. For I tell you that none of those men who were invited will taste of my supper.’”” (Luke 14:21-24 WEB)
The first Adam could not undo his sinner-hood by doing right. Yet, people are saying that you can lose your salvation by sinning.
What the last Adam (Jesus) did is much more powerful than what the first Adam did.
The first Adam made us all born as sinners while the last Adam made us who believe born-again as righteous children of God.
John 6:66-68 – The other disciples had pride and could not receive grace. All who came to Jesus were drawn by God and not one can boast that they were smart to choose to follow Him.
We receive the things of God because we are compelled by God—it is all by grace.
“At this, many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. Jesus said therefore to the twelve, “You don’t also want to go away, do you?” Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words of eternal life.” (John 6:66-68 WEB)
Luke 14:25 – Many people came to Jesus but for different reasons. Jesus does not want us to just come to Him for a pattern or example to imitate.
We are to come to Him for saving because we need saving from troubles every day.
“Now great multitudes were going with him. He turned and said to them,” (Luke 14:25 WEB)
Ephesians 5:1 – We mimic Abba God when we first know that we are loved by Him.
“Be therefore imitators of God, as beloved children.” (Ephesians 5:1 WEB)
Luke 14:26-35 – This parable of Jesus knocks the Jewish idea of discipleship which is simply to be learning from a teacher.
Sonship is greater than discipleship. It is wrong to exalt discipleship over sonship.
Discipleship is never mentioned after the Book of Acts. It is never talked about by Paul.
If you only see Jesus as a pattern or example, you get these hard words from Him. We cannot possibly give up everything like He did—we have to lay down our pride.
““If anyone comes to me, and doesn’t disregard his own father, mother, wife, children, brothers, and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he can’t be my disciple. Whoever doesn’t bear his own cross, and come after me, can’t be my disciple. For which of you, desiring to build a tower, doesn’t first sit down and count the cost, to see if he has enough to complete it? Or perhaps, when he has laid a foundation, and is not able to finish, everyone who sees begins to mock him, saying, ‘This man began to build, and wasn’t able to finish.’ Or what king, as he goes to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends an envoy, and asks for conditions of peace. So therefore whoever of you who doesn’t renounce all that he has, he can’t be my disciple. Salt is good, but if the salt becomes flat and tasteless, with what do you season it? It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile. It is thrown out. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”” (Luke 14:26-35 WEB)
Luke 15:1 – Sinners are not looking for a teacher but for a savior. Jesus loves it when we come to Him like that.
When we experience His love, we can mimic Him.
After the three parables of demand given in Luke 14 were given to the proud and self-righteous Pharisees, Jesus gave the three parables of grace in Luke 15.
“Then all the tax collectors and the sinners drew near to Him to hear Him.” (Luke 15:1 NKJV)
Luke 15:4-7 – No shepherd leaves ninety-nine sheep to find one lost sheep except for Jesus the good shepherd.
Jesus did almost everything. The only thing the sheep did to repent was to consent to be loved by the shepherd.
““Which of you men, if you had one hundred sheep, and lost one of them, wouldn’t leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one that was lost, until he found it? When he has found it, he carries it on his shoulders, rejoicing. When he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!’ I tell you that even so there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents, than over ninety-nine righteous people who need no repentance.” (Luke 15:4-7 WEB)
The three parables of grace are about God’s joy in redeeming you. It is all about the finder’s uncommon joy. God is made happy when sinners enter into His world.
Luke 15:8-10 – It is God rejoicing in the presence of the angels, not the angels who are rejoicing.
The woman is a picture of the Holy Spirit who sweeps the earth to find the ones made in the image of God who will receive salvation.
“Or what woman, if she had ten drachma coins, if she lost one drachma coin, wouldn’t light a lamp, sweep the house, and seek diligently until she found it? When she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the drachma which I had lost.’ Even so, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner repenting.”” (Luke 15:8-10 WEB)

Some people don’t buy any sermons because of ‘choice paralysis’. There’s so many messages to choose from, but they don’t know which one they want to get. Even if they bought all the sermons, few people have the time to watch 300 hours worth of sermons to see which messages they like.
If you were to buy each sermon at $10, you’d have to spend approximately $3000 or more to get all the sermons in this collection.
Get all my 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020 sermon notes in a downloadable and printable eBook format for only US$39 (limited time sale price). That’s 7 books in total!

They can act as a catalogue for you to browse through the sermons and see which ones you want to purchase. After reading the points, you may want to buy the sermon so you can hear exactly how the point was delivered by the speaker.
You can enjoy these sermon notes eBooks even without internet connection and if you’re like me who likes reading physical books, you can print them out and even make your own annotations on them during your personal Bible study time with God.

Thank you for being such a blessing to my family by reading my Christian content and purchasing my products. I write freelance full-time and am the main caretaker to my 4 year old daughter, so your seed sown allows me to keep writing content for Jesus’ glory, to build up the body of Christ and for the Gospel to reach unbelievers who are yet to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
My website receives hundreds of thousands of page views a year, and my Facebook page’s posts reach millions of users a year. Every view is a precious seed of the Gospel sown in a person’s heart, and knowing that keeps me going, even on days where it feels like what i’m doing seems insignificant or a waste of time.
All these labors to study God’s word and reach the world for Jesus takes both time and money, so thank you once again for being a co-partner in this mission.
Messiah’s Miracles—The Power of Having Faith in Jesus Christ
$9.99
$7.99
The Bible clearly reveals God’s will for every believer to walk in the miraculous. If you’re tired of a Christian walk that has no evidence of God’s manifested power, all it takes is to replace some wrong beliefs so that unbelief can be cast out. This is what I believe the Holy Spirit wants to do through this book.
Under the New Covenant of Grace, every blessing is received by faith. Faith comes by hearing about Jesus and this book is all about Jesus and designed to impart faith to the reader. During Jesus’ ministry on earth, He didn’t work any miracles by His own authority as God. He relied completely on faith in His Father and the power of the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit purposefully chose 37 of Jesus’ miracles to be recorded in the four gospels. This is no coincidence. Each miracle reveals something powerful about our Lord Jesus. As you behold Jesus’ love, grace and mercy expounded in these 37 miracles, I believe that you will see miracles erupt in your own life!
Testimonials from readers:
“One of my most trusted teachers has truly written a masterpiece. I can’t put this book down.”
– Michael Clark, Highly Sought-After Preacher in USA
“Thank you, Milton for the anointed sharing of the 37 miracles of Jesus. Right from the 1st miracle, God dropped fresh revelations of His heart to me. It wasn’t head knowledge that I experienced. I felt His personality, His loving heart’s intents towards me. On top of that, there’s also revelation of His healing power. Praise Jesus for transforming my heart and bringing me closer to Him through Milton’s sharing.”
– Ann Tan, GEM patron from Singapore

Silencing the Serpent: How Christians Can Be Victorious in Spiritual Warfare
$9.99
$7.99
Reviews about “Silencing the Serpent”:
“Milton Goh, I downloaded your book and it was God’s appointed time for my breakthrough. He destroyed a stronghold in my life that was rooted on a lie. A light just went on in an instant and the Lord uprooted a wrong belief. I struggled now for years with a relationship and I believed a lie that a sin I committed in the past was unforgivable, and I judged the other person for the same sin. It was unconscious and I didn’t know that I was bound by this lie. When I read a chapter in this book, about strongholds in the mind, the Holy Spirit revealed it to me in a flash and it was as if the walls of Jericho were tumbling down! Thanks for this book–it is from the Lord!
” – Antoinette Hurter Keyser from South Africa“A short testimony to share after reading the chapter about girding up our loins with the TRUTH. After reading it, I met some of my colleagues and the first thing they told me was, “You are fat, you put on weight,” not even “Hi, hello, how are you…” At first, I was sad over the remarks. But almost immediately, I was reminded of truth of God’s Word which says that “I am highly favored, beloved of Jesus, and Jesus sees me as fit and healthy. I am not defined by what others say, but by what Jesus says!” After that, I carried on with work and went for my run and managed to complete close to 5km. Something which I have never done before. All praise and glory to Jesus. Thank you, brother Milton for your teaching on the armor of God shared in this book! – Alwin Seeni from Singapore
“Thank you brother Milton. Your insights are a blessing. God bless you with many more beautiful revelations.” – Shirley Thomas from India
